Prison Bible Drive
In July, we asked you as a congregation to put Bibles in the hands of inmates. Why? Because God deeply cares about the outcasts and the hurting. From the mouth of Jesus in Luke 6:
“Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.
Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied.
Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.
Blessed are you when people hate, exclude, and insult you, because of Me.”
We aim to be a church that cares about what Jesus cares about. Your response proved this and the amount of donations were humbling to say the least. Together, we raised over $5,000 in one Sunday. We have already sent several shipments off, and because of your generosity, we have the ability to send more than we ever expected. The impact of these Bibles has been immediate!
We sent over 200 Bibles to Gatesville. They have been there for two weeks. Of the 25 Study Bibles, there are 4 left. These people are digging into the story of Jesus like it’s a hidden treasure. The chaplain has communicated that these inmates are gathering around tables together while reading and sharing what they are learning. God is moving there.
Another inmate has already requested 60 more prison Bibles as she has a group of eager friends who want her to lead a Bible study for them all. They feel loved and cared for. They are grateful.
I pray that we continue to foster a culture of grace, forgiveness, and generosity. May we be mindful of the poor and oppressed. May we not close our hands when others are in need. Thanks for all that you do. I am proud to be a part of you.
