Verse: “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:8-10, ESV)
Person I’d love to have coffee with: George W. Bush; Timothy Keller (pastor & author); Jim Gaffigan (comedian and author)
Hobbies: Golf, except in the winter; I’m not about that. Going to Aggie football games. I also just enjoy spending time with my wife: hanging out, going on dates, etc. As long as she is with me, I’m happy (this is true, not just trying to get bonus points…..but I make mistakes so it’s good to have this for her to reference when I mess up!)
Movies: I love movies, so it is difficult to pick favorites. But, if I had to pick two favorite movies, I’d say, The Dark Knight and Gladiator.
Background: I was born and raised in Longview, TX. I gave my life to Christ at Pine Cove camps when I was 10 years old. However, I doubted the authenticity of this decision as I got into high school. On a mission trip to Memphis, TN, I reaffirmed my faith in Christ as a 15 year old. I attended Texas A&M University (whoop!) and graduated with an accounting degree in 2008. God called me to ministry during the summer of 2008. I met my amazing wife, Jacklyn, while visiting seminaries in Dallas in the fall of 2008, and we got married in March 2011. I attended Dallas Baptist University and graduated with a Masters Degree in Christian Education in 2011. While I was working on my Masters, I started as a student ministry intern at Valley Ranch Baptist Church in Coppell, TX. I worked my way up to Associate Student Minister there. After I finished my Masters Degree, I started looking for full time student ministry positions and became the Middle School Minister in Fall 2012 at First Baptist Frisco in Frisco, TX. In the Fall of 2016, God called me to become the Students Pastor at the Vista! Our first child, Luke, is due in January 2017!
Vision for Vista: I want this to be a place where students discover their need for God and grow in their understanding of a God that loves them and wants to use them to further Christ’s Kingdom; where students are known and cared for; where students have ownership in the ministry, not just attending but getting involved; and where the love and joy of Christ is evident.
